Sigal Lenz, Artist

Sigal Lenz loves to capture a moment in time in her paintings. Her favorite subjects to paint are intimate landscapes and people enjoying everyday life. When looking for a scene to paint, Sigal is attracted to the play of light and shade. She finds that the light, though, tells its own story supports the story she wants to convey in her paintings. Through painting, Sigal expresses her feelings, experiences, and personal emotions. She loves to paint outdoors where she feels she is part of the creative process. Painting en plain air allows her to see how the light falls over the land to create the harmony she sees in nature.

Sigal’s main medium, today, is pastel. She paints in the traditional technic of working from hard to soft, using Hard and semi-hard pastels for the first layers of her painting, but loves the creamy buttery feel of  softer pastels for later layers and final highlight touches.

Sigal studied in New Jersey with Alex Piccirillo, Julie freedman, Rhoda Yanow, and Frank Federico. Sigal showed her paintings in members’ and juried shows in the U.S.A and received numerous awards. Since her move to Israel Sigal Participated in group shows and had individual shows.

Sigal also works as a sculpture using sheep’s wool as a medium. She starts with the fleece, combed and dyed, and through the process of felting, she creates sculptures, and vessels. She uses deferent types of wool From rough heavy wool to delicate wool. Sigal utilizes two main methods. The traditional, wet, technic and the dry, modern, technic. Sigal draws her inspiration from the magical world, nature, and the people around her.
